My weekends basically revolve around streaming a bunch of new movies and shows. By the time Friday night rolls around, I’m ready to hit play on something but somehow I often spend more time scrolling than actually watching. I get indecisive, and with so many new Netflix releases dropping at the start of the month, it’s tricky to spot what’s actually fresh.
To save you the hassle, I’ve done the digging for you. Here are three new on Netflix in December 2025 arrivals that are worth your weekend screen time. You’ll find the sequel to a popular monster movie, the streamer’s latest Christmas flick, and a seriously dark action-thriller.
‘Troll 2’
“Troll” was a smash hit on Netflix back in 2022, quickly becoming one of the streamer’s most-watched non-English movies ever. In its first three months, it racked up nearly 180 million hours viewed (that’s over 100 million “completed views”) and dominated the top 10 charts in dozens of countries. Of course, a sequel to this Norwegian epic was inevitable, and since its release earlier this week, it’s already claimed a seat high up on Netflix’s trending list.
When a powerful new troll — the so‑called “Megatroll” — resurfaces and begins to lay waste across Norway, paleontology professor Nora Tidemann (Ine Marie Wilmann) reunites with government adviser Andreas Isaksen (Kim Falck) and former army captain‑turned‑major Kristoffer Holm (Mads Sjøgård Pettersen). Together they go on their most dangerous mission yet: to stop the rampaging beast before it plunges their homeland into chaos.

‘My Secret Santa’
‘Tis the season for Netflix original Christmas movies, and since early November, the streamer has dropped plenty of festive flicks. If you’re not feeling the holiday spirit just yet, “My Secret Santa” might just change that. Starring Alexandra Breckenridge from “Virgin River” and packed with cheerful Santa outfits as the best disguises, it’s clearly hitting the mark since it’s currently No. 1 on Netflix. Go on, I know you’re curious!
Taylor (Breckenridge) is a single mom down on her luck — she’s just lost her job and desperately needs money to send her daughter to snowboarding school. With few options, she hatches a bold plan: disguise herself as an older man and get hired as Santa Claus at a fancy ski resort. When she lands the seasonal job as “Santa,” things go smoothly until she meets the resort’s handsome manager, Matthew (Ryan Eggold). Suddenly, Taylor must juggle her secret identity, keep up her act, and deal with budding feelings.

‘The Northman’
So far we’ve had a gripping action-adventure and a charming Christmas flick, but now we’re taking a turn into dark territory with “The Northman.” Directed by Robert Eggers (who helmed the recent “Nosferatu”), this thrilling period action-drama brings a legendary Viking tale to life, a story that’s also believed to have inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Packed with intense drama and some truly brutal sequences, “The Northman” offers an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience that really doesn’t hold back.
In 895 AD, young prince Amleth is heir to his father King Aurvandill (Ethan Hawke) and poised to one day rule. But when his treacherous uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang) betrays them (murdering the king, seizing the throne and abducting Amleth’s mother), Amleth narrowly escapes by boat, vowing vengeance. Years later, grown and hardened into a fearsome warrior‑berserker, Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) goes on a violent journey across lands and seas to infiltrate Fjölnir’s domain under the guise of a slave.
