3 best new to Prime Video shows to binge-watch this weekend (April 3-5)

Things would get a little boring in the world of television if the best streaming services didn't shake up their selection every now and again, and as one of the top platforms, Prime Video certainly knows that fact. That's why the Amazon streamer is constantly bringing us new TV shows and movies each and every week, meaning the weekend is prime time for catching up on some of those latest and greatest titles.

If you don't want to get bogged down by endless scrolling and simply want some straight-to-the-point streaming suggestions, Tom's Guide is here to help. Each week, we curate a quick list of three recent additions to Prime Video's streaming library that we think deserve a spot on your watchlist.

Among this week's recommendations are an anime newcomer set in post-apocalyptic Japan, a new season of "House of David" and a new comedy-drama-thriller from Oscar winner Riz Ahmed. Find out more about all three new to Prime Video TV shows below.

'Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun'

If it's a brutal-but-good anime saga you're after, click play on this adaptation of Ikka Matsuki’s popular manga, which is set in a near-future, post-apocalyptic Japan that's been divided into three warring states, with a revolution sparked by nuclear war and natural disaster, and misrule is ready to bubble over.

Premiering globally on Prime Video on Sunday, April 5, "Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun" centers on Aoteru Misumi (voiced by Kensho Ono), a former agricultural officer who vows to end the chaos and unify the fractured nation strategically using only his knowledge and eloquence. "Witness the legend of the man later hailed as a genius strategist," says the series' official logline.

'House of David'

As we're entering into Easter weekend and continuing Passover celebrations, we might as well get a little biblical with our binging sessions.

Helpfully, the second season of the Amazon historical drama "House of David" recently hit Prime Video, with eight new episodes chronicling the aftermath of the famous battle between David (Michael Iskander) and Goliath, as well as David's rise from shepherd to warrior to, later, the most famous king of Israel. However, that newfound power doesn't come without its dangers, as David has to contend with palace politics, familial drama and a growing romance.

Along with Iskander, the "House of David" cast includes Ali Suliman, Ayelet Zurer, Stephen Lang, Indy Lewis, Yali Topol Margalith, Ethan Kai, Sam Otto and Oded Fehr, among others.

'Bait'

Available to stream as of March 25, Prime Video's buzziest new series just might be "Bait," a limited dramedy series created by, written by and starring Oscar winner Riz Ahmed. The multihyphenate plays a British-Pakistani actor named Shah Latif, whose days of struggling to find work seem to be over after he lands a potentially life-changing audition to play James Bond. (It's a bit of a meta-premise, as Ahmed himself has been included the 007 rumor mill for years.)

With the bold and funny six-part series taking place over the course of four days, Shah's life begins to unravel, though, as word spreads among his family, his former romantic partners and the public that he might become the next martini-sipping movie spy.
