24,792 new Covid cases, 63 more deaths

There were 63 more Covid-19 fatalities and 24,792 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.

This compared with the 74 coronavirus-related fatalities and 22,984 confirmed new cases reported on Thursday morning.

The figures did not include 21,626 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. That would raise the total number of new cases to 46,418.

The 63 latest fatalities were people between the ages of 28 and 93 years and included one  foreigner, an American.

Bangkok had seven new deaths and there were seven more in adjacent provinces - in Pathum Thani (3), Nakhon Pathom (2) and Samut Prakan (2).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 10 more deaths - two each in Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Ratchaburi and one each in Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Trat and Sa Kaeo.

The Northeast had six new fatalities - two each Surin, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South reported 26 deaths - five in Nakhon Si Thammarat, four each in Phatthalung, Yala and Surat Thani, three in Satun, two each in Narathiwat and Phuket and once each in Phangnga and Songkhla.

The North saw seven new fatalities - two in Tak and Nakhon Sawan and one each in Chiang Rai, Phrae and Uthai Thani.

There were 24,554 new cases in the general population, 158 among prison inmates and 80 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections in the general population, 24,308 were confirmed at hospitals and 246 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 3,171, followed by 1,386 in Chon Buri, 1, 324 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 971 in Nonthaburi, 829 in Samut Sakhon, 813 in Samut Prakan, 645 in Pathum Thani, 617 in Ayutthaya, 532 in Nakhon Ratchasima and 519 in Nakhon Pathom.

The 80 imported cases came from 28 countries and included 16 from Saudi Arabia, eight from Cambodia, six each from the United Kingdom and Russia and four from France.

On Thursday 222,998 people received Covid-19 treatment (up from 220,334 the previous day) - 63,553 were at hospitals (up from 58,254), including 1,255 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 1,238) and 415 dependent on ventilators (down from 420).

The 24-hour period also saw 22,065 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 3,136,649 Covid-19 cases, including 913,214 this year, with 2,890,076 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 23,575 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 1,877 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.79 million in 24 hours to 453.64 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 6,621 to 6.05 million.

Over the past seven days, South Korea had the most cases, 1.85 million, followed by Germany with 1.26 million cases, Vietnam 1.07 million and Russia 505,450.
