€23k raised for Donegal boy, 7, after untimely death of dad aged 37

More than €23,000 has been raised for seven-year-old Finley to help support him financially until he is 21, after he tragically lost his father Gerry due to lifelong complications with diabetes.

Gerry Glackin, 37, died on May 9, leading to his friends and family having their "world torn apart" upon hearing the devastating news that their son, brother, father, uncle, work colleague and friend, all in one, had died suddenly.

Gerry's family have set up a GoFundMe to help financially support his son Finley, who was his world, so that he "does not have to struggle through life with any financial issues."

On the fundraiser, they recalled how Gerry returned home on a Friday evening, from his working week in Dublin, after which he would spend his time with ‘the wee man’, as he nicknamed him.

"They would spend their Saturdays and Sundays, which they had together, making memories. They would go out on the quads, go to the cinema, go for lunch, go for haircuts, kick a football about, a drive in the car or simply playing outside in the tree house, which Gerry built for his wee man," they said.

Anyone who had the privilege to know Gerry knows that his wee man was his world, and he would always go above and beyond to ensure that Finley was safe, happy and had everything he needed, his family outlined.

"Nothing will ever come close to the bond that Gerry and Finley had, but together with your help, we can at the very least, take the financial stresses away and help Finley adapt to his new life without his daddy," their fundraiser states.

So far, more than €23,000 out of a €100,000 goal has been raised. All funds raised will be used to fund Finley’s needs throughout his future.

"Please give what you can, no matter how big or how small. Every euro helps," Gerry and Finley's family said.
