In his latest 2024 NFL mock draft for Draft Wire, Curt Popejoy has the Denver Broncos selecting Florida State edge defender Jared Verse.
“The Broncos don’t have a player on the roster with more than seven sacks so we opt for a guy who can add some punch off the edge in Jared Verse,” Popejoy wrote on Draft Wire.
This mock draft was published last week and Popejoy’s comment still holds true — Nik Bonitto leads the team with seven sacks this year, followed by Jonathon Cooper (5.5), Zach Allen (5.0) and Baron Browning (3.5). Denver could certainly use an elite pass rusher. Verse totaled 18 sacks in 25 games with the Seminoles from 2022-2023.
Three quarterbacks — Drake Maye (No. 2), Caleb Williams (No. 6) and Michael Penix Jr. (No. 11) — go off the board before the Broncos’ pick and two more QBs — Bo Nix (No. 19) and Jayden Daniels (No. 21) — went off the board after Denver’s pick.
