As the New York Giants headed into the bye week riding a two-game winning streak, the rest of the league played out their Week 13 slate this past weekend.
At 4-8, many are on draft positioning watch for the Giants and other teams with top-10 draft potential. Following Sunday’s games, New York would select 7th overall in the 2024 NFL draft (if the season ended today), per Tankathon.
The Giants dropped one spot, down to seventh overall following the New York Jets’ 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Because strength of schedule is the first tiebreaker in draft position, Gang Green moves ahead of Big Blue despite winning the head-to-head matchup.
The Giants have been rumored to be in the quarterback market. However, general manager Joe Schoen was pretty clear that the Giants would be targeting the best player available (quarterback or otherwise).
Although there is still a lot of football to play, Big Blue’s back-to-back wins ahead of the bye likely played themselves out of a top-3 pick — where the top two quarterbacks are likely to be selected.
Selecting a top-two quarterback or projected generational wide receiver talent Marvin Harrison Jr. would likely require the Giants to trade up as things currently sit.
With five games left on the schedule, it will be interesting to see where the Giants end up picking in the 2024 NFL draft.
