In October of the previous year, Hurricane Otis, rapidly intensifying into a Category 5 storm, made landfall in the state of Guerrero, wreaking havoc on Acapulco. The Arena GNP Seguros, the venue for the Mexican Open since 2022, suffered severe flooding and damage, threatening the tournament's future.
