The Indianapolis Colts selected Miami TE Will Mallory with the No. 162 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
Receiving this pick in the mid-season trade with the Buffalo Bills, the Colts add to the tight end room with Mallory, who is an athletic tight end from a family with plenty of football history.
Mallory is pretty lean for a tight end at 6-foot-4 and 239 pound, but he ran a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 36.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-1-inch broad jump at the NFL combine.
A fifth-year senior, Mallory was a team captain in 2022 and particpated in the Senior Bowl.
Mallory is a good athlete and blocker when detached from the line, but it’s unlikely he will be used as an in-line blocker considering his light frame against NFL caliber edge rushers.
That said, he’s a reliable player who understands how to work holes in zone coverage and has even shown some juice on vertical concepts. He’s probably best suited for a move tight end role alongside Kylen Granson.
