The Cleveland Browns team needs seem to be very similar to the ones that started the offseason. While the team recently added Stephen Weatherly and brought back Sheldon Day, the defensive line remains a thin group lacking multiple starting players. We touched on Touchdown Wire’s defensive end rankings and a few of the players Cleveland could pursue in the second and third rounds.
Today we move inside. The defensive tackle position is one that GM Andrew Berry has drafted midround players and signed one year veterans to try to solve but with limited success. Jordan Elliott and Tommy Togiai have not shown the ability to be starter-level players while veterans Andrew Billings and Malik Jackson were helpful but far from impactful.
The Malik McDowell return started off well but an incident in Florida this offseason may have ended his chances with the Browns.
Our friends at The Draft Wire have their defensive tackle rankings up and, based on projections, Cleveland could have some top five options in the second round.
Not surprisingly, Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt of Georgia lead the way for the group. Davis is likely to be long gone and Wyatt is too old for what the Browns normally look for and will also, likely, be gone.
It is the rest of the top five, based on projections, that could fall in Cleveland’s lap. The versatile Logan Hall is third, DeMarvin Leal (someone I have loved in mock drafts) is fourth and Senior Bowl MVP Perrion Winfrey is fifth.
Travis Jones, mocked to the Browns by Mel Kiper Jr. multiple times, and Zachary Carter are two names in the top 10 that are interesting for Cleveland as well.
Check out their rankings and let us know which defensive tackles you’d like to see added to the Browns roster.
