It takes a team effort to have as good a unit as San Diego State has boasted on defense over the last handful of seasons, but not many have contributed quite as much with intangibles and production as linebacker Caden McDonald. He’s back on our annual list of the Mountain West’s best for the second year in a row.
McDonald became a team captain in 2021 and then played his way into being named just the fifth San Diego State linebacker to earn back-to-back first-team all-conference selections, making 49 total tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two passes defended.
The Aztecs might be replacing a few of last year’s major players, but with McDonald back in the thick of things for another year, fans on the Mesa have every right to continue expecting big things from what their team does best.
