The Grammys took a pause to remember late Foo Fighters musician Taylor Hawkins with a touching tribute during the star-studded ceremony in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The 50-year-old drummer died from a suspected overdose in his hotel room in Colombia where he had been due to appear with the band at a festival.

Following the tragedy, the Foo Fighters cancelled their tour and pulled out of their scheduled performance at the 64th annual Grammy Awards where they were up for three prizes.

Despite skipping the ceremony, they scooped Best Rock Performance for Making a Fire, Best Rock Song for Waiting on a War, and Best Rock Album for Medicine at Midnight.

The wins reportedly make them the most-awarded American band in Grammy history.

Host Trevor Noah introduced a brief montage to celebrate Hawkins ahead of the traditional In Memoriam segment.

The video blended interviews and backstage home movies with live footage, ending in an audience singalong of the group’s song My Hero.

Addressing the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Noah said: “So this was the moment in the show where I was supposed to be introducing Foo Fighters. We would have been celebrating with them as they won three Grammys earlier today.

“But they, of course, are not here due to the tragic death of their legendary drummer Taylor Hawkins.

“Our thoughts go out to Taylor’s family, his friends, the Foo Fighter family and their fans around the globe.”

Earlier in the show, Billie Eilish also paid tribute to the late rocker by sporting a black t-shirt featuring his image as she performed her hit Happier Than Ever with her brother Finneas.
