₹20 cr. sought for developing Badanavalu

Nanjangud MLA B. Harshavardhan has urged Tourism Minister Anand Singh to extend a budgetary support of ₹20 crore in the current fiscal for establishing the Gandhi Ashram at Badanavalu village and the Kapila Vana in Nanjangud town.

The MLA submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Minister recently.

Mr. Harshavardhan told the Minister that Badanavalu village, where the Gandhi Ashram is located, can be developed on the lines of the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. A blueprint on the project is also ready. Mahatma Gandhi had visited Badanavalu where a khadi spinning centre was functioning. The centre is still operational.

The MLA said Badanavalu is a historic place and it can be developed as part of the 150 th birth anniversary celebrations of the Mahatma. On the occasion, the MLA submitted a copy of the plans that have been chalked out for the development of the village, to the Minister.

The MLA, who is keen to expand greenery in the temple town of Nanjangud, has proposed to develop the Kapila Vana on the lines of the botanical gardens in Ooty.

Mr. Harshavardhan pointed out that Nanjangud is a well-known tourist place because of the Srikanteshwara Temple, which is popularly known as Dakshina Kashi. The town is just 23 km away from Mysuru. A national highway that runs close to the town connects to Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Keeping all these factors in view, the government must include the said projects in the current year’s budget allocations, he felt.

The MLA also submitted proposals about the projects to the Minister.
