2 United Airlines planes make contact at Boston airport

BOSTON — Two United Airlines planes touched one another at Boston Logan International Airport Monday morning, just one week after a close call between a JetBlue plane and a private jet at Logan.

While getting pushed back from the gate, a United aircraft departing for Newark, New Jersey, made contact with another United plane that was parked at a neighboring gate and was set to depart for Denver, according to officials.

The plane was being towed by United staff. There were no reported injuries.

“As a tow tug was pushing it back from the gate at Boston Logan International Airport, the right wing of United Airlines Flight 515 struck the tail of United Airlines Flight 267 around 8:30 a.m. local time this morning,” the FAA said in a statement.

Both aircraft were Boeing 737s that were scheduled for departure.

“The FAA will investigate,” the FAA added.

Passengers on both aircraft deplaned normally, according to United.

“We’ve made arrangements to get them to their destinations on different aircraft,” the airline added about passengers.

This incident comes one week after a JetBlue flight had a close call with a Learjet at Boston Logan.

Shortly before 7 p.m. last Monday, the pilot of a Learjet 60 took off without clearance while JetBlue Flight 206 from Nashville was preparing to land on an intersecting runway. The pilot of the JetBlue aircraft ended up taking “evasive action and initiated a climb-out as the Learjet crossed the intersection.”
