
The United States is the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), having surpassed Australia and Qatar in 2023. The United States exports an estimated 12.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day or 92 million metric tons annually. It's also arguably the largest natural gas exporter, surpassing Russia and Norway since 2024. Ukraine’s cancellation of its Russian gas export transit deal, where Russia's pipelines run through Ukraine to European customers, further cuts Russia's exports. Natural gas is growing as a fuel source for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) that don't even need to be converted to hydrogen first.
