2,455 new Covid cases, 33 more deaths

There were 33 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,455 new patients admitted to hospitals on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday.

This compared with 35 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,316 patients on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 21,584 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 21,304 the previous day), including 11,015 in hospitals (down from 11,168). Of the remainder, 208 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 205) and 10,256 in home/community isolation (up from 9,859).

Of those in hospitals, 920 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 919) and 477 dependent on ventilators (up from 463).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,142 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Among 2,455 new cases over the past 24 hours, there were 2,444 cases in the general population and 11 among prison inmates.

The 33 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from 48 to 93 years.

Bangkok logged three new deaths, and there were four new fatalities in the adjacent provinces – two in Pathum Thani and one each in Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan.

Other provinces in the Central Plains further from the capital had 19 new deaths - seven in Ayutthaya, three each in Chon Buri and Saraburi, two each in Sing Buri and Chachoengsao and one each in Rayong and Sa Kaeo.

The North reported no new deaths.

The Northeast saw six new fatalities - four in Nakhon Ratchasima and one each in Nong Bua Lam Phu and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South had one new death in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,616,512 Covid-19 cases, including 2,393,077 this year, with 4,563,165 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 31,763 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,065 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 770,327 in 24 hours to 593.10 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,724 to 6.45 million.

The United States had the most cases at 94.48 million, up 79,145, and the most deaths at 1.06 million, up 290.
