190 from Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society make it to MBBS in counselling 1st round

HYDERABAD: As many as 190 Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) students created history by securing MBBS seats in the recently concluded first round of medical counselling.

The social welfare society said that this was a big milestone for them as never before had such a large number of first-generation learners from humble family backgrounds made it to medical colleges. “TSWREIS has sent 513 marginalised students to medical colleges in the last six years, which is a remarkable achievement in itself,” TSWREIS secretary Ronald Rose said, adding that the credit goes to the state government for sanctioning funds for NEET coaching to help poor students fight their way out of poverty. B Saani from Gowlidoddi college, whose father is a sanitation worker and mother a labourer, said that if not for free NEET coaching he wouldn’t have dreamt of preparing for exam.

“I want to become a nephrologist and want to be remembered as poor people’s doctor,” said Saani who has got a seat in Gandhi Medical College. “I decided to become a doctor when I lost my father when I was 10 years old. Poverty taught me lessons in life and made me realise that no one should die due to lack of money,” Neha said. D Spandana from Mahabubabad secured admission at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad. She wants to pursue nephrology as a specialisation.
