On the corner of the Wirral peninsula is one of our most treasured sights, the New Brighton lighthouse.
The most north easterly tip of Wirral has stood out as a beacon for passing ships since the 1600s were a light was maintained on the rock face to warn sailors of the shoreline.
The lighthouse that we are now so familiar with was first built in 1827 and was then known as the Perch Rock Lighthouse. The lighthouse has not been in use since October 1, 1973, but is still maintained.

This beautifully-tended park leads on to New Brighton promenade and has great views of the Mersey.

It's like an Aladdin's cave of books - quite a small shop but rammed with them from floor to ceiling.
And you can always find something interesting or unusual and the staff are really friendly.
