Sergio Garcia is one of 17 LIV Golf players going through qualifying next week in a bid to earn a place at next month's Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Garcia himself has competed in the last 23 Open Championships, having been a mainstay at the top of professional golf for the past two decades. Since joining LIV Golf though, things have been less simple for the Spanish star, having competed without world ranking points for the past 12 months.
The breakaway circuit's lack of Official World Golf Ranking recognition, has seen its stars slump down the ranking list, with the 2017 Masters champion of the biggest fallers.
Having started the 2022 season in 45th, Garcia now finds himself outside the top 200 in 209th. This means the Spanish star is now forced to qualify for the fourth and final major event of the year the hard way, but the 43-year-old will not be alone.
The final stage of Open qualifying will take place next week across four courses, West Lancashire, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports and Royal Porthcrawl. Across the four events, 17 LIV players will be bidding for a place, and here is a look at each.
Sergio Garcia
Garcia is arguably the biggest name to be taking the qualifying route to secure a spot at Royal Liverpool on July 20. The Spaniard will tee it up at West Lancashire, having already gone through a similar route to make the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club earlier this campaign.
Mito Pereira
One man who will be joining Garcia on the Lancashire coast is fellow LIV star Pereira. The Chilean is no stranger to thriving at a major championship, having come agonisingly close to being crowned PGA Champion at Southern Hills last summer, missing out by a single shot.
One year on though, things a much more difficult for Pereira, with the 28-year-old required to earn a spot via qualifying to have any chance of repeating at similar performance at Hoylake next month.
Graeme McDowell
Another LIV Golf star who is no stranger to competing at the Open Championship is Graeme McDowell. During his career McDowell has competed in 14 Opens, with a best finish of tied-fifth back in 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes
If he is to make it appearance No. 15 though the Northern Irishman and former US Open champion will be required to shine over 36 holes at West Lancashire next week.
Carlos Ortiz
Over at Dundonald Links, one LIV Golf star who will be gunning for an Open spot is Carlos Ortiz. The Mexican star - who joined the breakaway league last summer - has just one Open appearance to his name, and will be out to secure No. 2 when competing in Ayrshire next week.
Peter Uihlein
Ortiz will be joined at Dundonald by fellow LIV rebel Peter Uihlein. The American has enjoyed plenty of success whilst competing on the rebel circuit over the past year. And he will be hoping to replicate this in qualifying to secure a fourth Open Championship appearance.
Jason Kokrak
Another American LIV star who will be taking to the Ayrshire course is Jason Kokrak. The 38-year-old who resides in Ohio has appeared at four Open Championships during his career, with his best finish at the event coming in Royal St George's as he placed in a tie for 26th.
Andy Ogletree
Andy Ogletree first made a name for himself when becoming the U.S. Amateur champion back in 2019, before going on to finish dead last in LIV Golf's first ever event at Centurion last June. Since then he has taken on the role of reserve player on the breakaway circuit in 2023, where he has made two appearances so far.
The American will be out to secure his first ever Open Championship spot when he tees it up at Dundonald next week.
Sebastian Munoz
The fifth LIV star heading to Ayrshire is Torque GC member Sebastian Munoz. 30-year-old Munoz - who comes from Colombia - has played at the last two Open Championships, and will be looking to make it three from three when heading to qualifying.
Dean Burmester
A group of LIV players will also be heading to Royal Cinque Ports in a bid to secure an Open spot. One of those is big-hitting South African Dean Burmester. Despite having just two Open Championship appearances to his name, Burmester impressed last year after finishing in a tie for 11th.
Branden Grace
Burmester will also be joined by fellow South African LIV man Branden Grace. The Stingers star is no stranger to the famous major championship, having made 10 Open Championship appearances during his career. His best effort came back in 2017 where he finished in a tie for sixth alongside fellow LIV members Brooks Koepka and Marc Leishman.
Charl Schwartzel
The third South African competing at Royal Cinque Ports is Charl Schwartzel. The maiden LIV Golf winner is no stranger to major success, having wrote himself into the sport's history books by claiming the Masters title in 2011. Whilst he has earned life-time eligibility at Augusta, things a much more difficult for Schwartzel if he wants to compete at The Open.
Brendan Steele
Joining the South African LIV trio is fellow rebel Brendan Steele. The American has competed for the famous Claret Jug at five Open Championships during his playing career, with the latest coming at Royal St George's two years ago.
David Puig
One man who is gunning for his first ever Open appearance is Spaniard David Puig. Aged just 21, Puig enjoyed an impressive college career in the United States before making the decision to turn professional to join the LIV Golf setup towards the end of 2022
.
Marc Leishman
Whilst the South Africans are grouped together Royal Cinque Ports, it seems a number of Australians are heading to Royal Porthcrawl to earn their Open spots. The first of those is Marc Leishman who is no stranger to the Open Championship.
The LIV Golf member has played in 12 Open's and has in impressive record to boot. Despite missing three cuts on the bounce in recent years, Leishman has three top-10 finishes to his name, with his best performance coming a tie for second back in 2015.
Matt Jones
Leishman will be joined by fellow Australian LIV star Matt Jones. Like his countryman, Jones best performance at the Open Championship came eight years ago, after the 43-year-old finished in a tie for 30th at the Home of Golf.
Cameron Tringale
Joining the Australian duo at the Welsh-based qualifier is American LIV competitor Cameron Tringale. During his playing career Tringale has competed for the Claret Jug on four occasions with his performance coming when he broke into the top 30 back in 2021.
Anirban Lahiri
Another LIV man gunning for a major spot in Porthcrawl is Anirban Lahiri. Indian star Lahiri is no stranger to the Open Championship, having played the famous event on six occasions during his career. His Open highlight came during his first appearance in 2012, after landing an impressive hole-in-one at the par-three ninth at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
