150 new Gloucestershire homes planned for former RAF site

A housebuilder has acquired land to deliver a further 150 homes at a former RAF airbase in Gloucestershire.

Vistry’s regional Cotswold office has bought a site at Kingsway Village for an undisclosed sum. The suburb - developed on the former grounds of RAF Quedgeley - is three miles south of the city of Gloucester.

The 14.3-acre site is situated to the north of Rudloe Drive, opposite the Green Oaks development where Vistry is currently building 80 homes under its Linden Homes brand.

The newly acquired land already has outline planning permission for 150 homes, including 120 properties for private sale and 30 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership.

Vistry said it was preparing to submit detailed plans for the design and layout of the development to Gloucester City Council. If approved, construction work could begin on the site this autumn, with the first residents moving into their new homes next summer.

Hayley Ody, acting regional sales and marketing director at Vistry Cotswolds, said: “We are pleased to acquire this adjacent parcel of land which will enable us to continue delivering much-needed new homes for the area.

“The new site will represent a seamless extension to Green Oaks, with a similar mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses designed to meet the needs of buyers at various stages of the property ladder.”

RAF Quedgeley was closed in 1995, having previously been used for a munitions factory during the First World War and as a military aircraft storage and maintenance unit in the Second World War.

The regeneration of the site into Kingsway Village began in 2006. As well providing housing for around 3,000 people, the neighbourhood also has two primary schools as well as a shopping hub, the Kingsway Local Centre.
