Tributes are flowing in for the 15-year-old alleged murder victim whose body was discovered over the weekend. Authorities are now investigating if the teenager was under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs before his tragic death.
On Sunday, 32-year-old Jacob Greig was charged with murder after the body of a teenage boy was found on the side of the road in bushland in Wilton, NSW.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the teen — who cannot be identified for legal reasons — was camping with mates in Wilton Weir on Friday night.
The teen then allegedly approached a red Hyundai and broke the back door handle in an attempt to get in, wanting a lift home.
This is when it’s alleged that Greig emerged from the passenger seat with a large knife, swearing at the teen and threatening to “chop [his] hand off”.
According to a police document, the teen replied with “strange, soft replies” and even said: “I love my girlfriend, bro,” and “Lad, we live in the same world”.
After the brief exchange, it’s alleged that Grieg slashed the boy with the knife.
The publication also reported that the teen allegedly knocked Greig’s glasses off, and jumped on the car which was driven by an unidentified female friend.
According to the police fact sheet, the boy was intoxicated however forensic tests are still ongoing. Police are reportedly investigating if the narcotics the teen had ingested were hallucinogenic.
Tributes flow for alleged teenage murder victim
Following news of the boy’s death, students of a Sydney high school have left messages online for the alleged murder victim, with one describing the teenager as “one of the sweetest most genuine most loyal boys” they’ve known.
“He always had my back through everything and always made sure to check up on me, i am beyond shocked that someone is that disgusting to [allegedly] murder somebody,” one tribute reads.
A spokesperson for Picton High told the Herald that the school will be offering additional counsellors for students, family and staff who’ve been impacted by the death.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of a Picton High School student and offer our care and condolences to the family and loved ones,” they said.
“Additional counsellors are at the school to support the family, students, staff and the school community through this difficult time.
“This support will be ongoing.”
Greig was denied bail on Sunday. He will remain behind bars until his next court date, which is on January 8, 2025.
