13 brilliant pictures as people in Liverpool celebrate New Year's Eve 2022

It’s New Year’s Eve and people have been celebrating in Liverpool as 2022 draws to a close.

Liverpool’s bars, clubs and restaurants welcomed people as they prepared to ring in the new year across the city. People braved the weather and the cost of living crisis to visit some of the city centre's hotspots. Areas including Concert Square, Wood Street, Mathew Street and Castle Street were busy with people dressed to enjoy the occasion in style.

Many of Liverpool’s venues put on special ticketed events to see in the New Year. PINS Social Club hosted a New York City style countdown event with confetti ball drop at the stroke of midnight and NYE feast with live DJs on its huge roof terrace.

Over at the Baltic Market, a special 80s prom was held with a giant light up dance floor, themed cocktails and live big bands. Meanwhile, diners at Lu Ban restaurant tucked into a special seven course banquet and new Water Street restaurant Gaucho had DJs and dancers to entertain diners until 2am. ECHO photographer Andy Teebay was out in the city centre capturing pictures of the festivities.

As 2023 approaches, there's a lot to look forward to in the city, with the Eurovision Song Contest just months away and another Grand National at Aintree in April. There's also some huge gigs and shows coming our way, including Peter Kay's first visit to Liverpool on his huge UK tour, plus Lewis Capaldi performs in the city on January 19 and Elton John finally brings his Farewell Yellow Brick Road to the M&S Bank Arena in March, having been rescheduled twice.
