Dubh linn Gardens

Locked away behind Dublin Castle, Dubh linn is a fantastic picnic spot in Dublin city centre where you can relax in the sun.

Dubh linn is also the only garden in Ireland where you can expect to find snakes. Well, not the live variety but the curling design of the stonework on the lawn forms two long serpents.

Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin are home to some of Ireland's most beautiful flowers.

Massive greenhouses transport you to a number of foreign lands with their exotic flowers and plants, while the outside gardens showcase the diversity of flora that grows in our beautiful country.

Sandymount Strand

Why not sit peacefully and watch the ships as the pass into and out of Dublin Bay?

Howth Summit

Howth Summit is an absolutely breath taking part of the world, offering the most unbeatable views to accompany you during your picnic.

You can drive all the way up to the summit but what we suggest is doing the walk there, enjoying your picnic bits as a reward after.

Powerscourt Waterfall

Powerscourt Waterfall is outside of Dublin but only takes around an hour to drive to from the city centre. This picnic spot offers the stunning crashing waterfall as both a scenic and audio background to your sunny afternoon.

The gardens are simply stunning too.

Iveagh Gardens

Iveagh Gardens is one of Dublin's best picnic spots for its dose of tranquillity right in the centre of all the madness. You will find it on Clonmel Street (off Harcourt Street). With beautifully landscaped fields, a waterfall and lovely trees and plants as a backdrop, it's a picnic spot you should definitely consider when in Dublin city centre.

Phoenix Park flower gardens

Despite being the city's most famous green area, the Phoenix Park is massive enough to offer plenty of quiet space for a nice picnic.

One of the best and most peaceful areas is the People's Flower Gardens which are also nice and handily located just inside the main gate.

Ardgillan Castle

The fabulous gardens and great sea views make the grounds of Ardgillan a great place to explore and have a picnic.

If you spook easily then this probably isn't the place for you as it's said that the castle is haunted by the ghost of a sailor's widow known as the 'Waiting Lady'.

Malahide Castle

Malahide Castle and Gardens is home to plenty of attractions such as the impressively large playground, the butterfly house and of course the castle itself.

What should not be overlooked, though, is the park's huge array of green spaces upon which you can lay a blanket and enjoy a picnic in the sun.

Killiney Hill

It might take a bit of a walk to get to the top, but for the views Killiney Hill is well worth climbing. All that exercise will just give you a bigger appetite for your picnic.

If you fancy an after eating stroll you can always head down to the award winning beach.

St Anne's Park

St Anne's Park in Clontarf is a simply stunning part of the city and makes for the ultimate picnic spot, with its almost never-ending green expanses, hills and scenic spots.

Our top tip for the ultimate picnic is to perch yourself at the southern coastal corner of the park, a hill from which you can look out to the sea and the city centre.
