100 gecs – 10,000 gecs album review: like music’s worst genres crammed into a bazooka and fired at your face

When I was a teenager, and my parents were banging on the living room ceiling to get me to turn down whatever noisy nonsense I was blaring on my CD player in the bedroom above, I remember vowing never to become the type of adult that finds their children’s music objectionable. What yet-to-be-discovered sound could possibly offend the ears of someone who in the course of their job has had to attend concerts by both Slipknot and Atomic Kitten?

Well, I finally found it. As 100 gecs, Missouri duo Laura Les and Dylan Brady are at the forefront of the Everything-Everywhere-All-At-Once sound known as hyperpop. They make exhausting, memeable electro-rock songs that feel like most of music’s worst genres crammed into a bazooka and fired at your face from three centimetres away.
