AUGUSTA, Ga. — A decade removed from his lone major championship, Adam Scott is again threatening at Augusta National.
Scott, the 2013 Masters winner, shot 68 on Thursday — his lowest in the event since 2019.
“It was nice to get started in the right direction,” Scott said. “You want to put yourself in the right spot early. We just don’t know what’s going to happen and how the weather might affect the rest of the week, so if you’re hanging around right from the start it’s probably helpful.”

The Australian said he’s adopted a theme for the week: Stay committed and deal with it.
So far, so good. Scott’s 68 marked his lowest opening round in 22 appearances in Augusta.
His previous best was 69, which he’s done four times — most recently in 2019.
“The most nervous I am on a golf course is the first tee Thursday at the Masters,” Scott admitted. “It’s the build-up.”
Scott credited his Thursday success to an equipment change, saying he has new shafts in his driver and irons. He also noted that he’s playing with a different golf ball.
In addition, the Australian mentioned the importance of having Steve Williams on his bag this week.
“We’ve had a good history here,” Scott said of their 2013 triumph. “This was certainly a priority to have Steve (as caddie) and he’s buzzing to be back at Augusta. It’s up to me to keep that buzz going.”
