A 7.0 CGC-graded copy of Detective Comics #27 was sold at auction for $2.3 million in March 2026. Published in 1939, the comic features the first appearances of Batman and Commissioner Jim Gordon. Less than 80 copies of this comic exist on the planet. Along with its historical importance, its rarity is why it is so valuable to collectors. It is hard to find copies of this comic in high condition; you would pay hundreds of thousands for a 5.0 or 6.0 grade of this comic. However, you can still invest in many Batman key comics from this era.
