Buying whisky as a gift – or even for yourself – can be a nightmare if you don’t know what you’re looking for. There are plenty of countries around the world, each with hundreds of distilleries, making whiskies that range in flavour from elegant and floral to rich and smoky.
The cherry on top is that whisky lovers have their own favoured styles, distilleries and bottles. If you’re shopping outside your comfort zone, you may as well run at the spirits shelves, blindfolded and arms out, and hope for the best.
