10 best Amanda Staveley quotes as Newcastle United co-owner celebrates milestone birthday

On the 50th birthday of Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley, we take a look at some of her best quotes both pre and post-takeover.

After a long battle of taking the club over, the Ripon-born businesswoman and her partners were met with mass celebrations around St James’ Park following the confirmation of the deal. Since then, the co-owner has gone on to predict and promise great things for the football club, not only for the first team, but with a lot of investment set to go into behind-the-scenes operations and various different aspects of the club.

Below are some of her best and most memorable quotes since her journey to attain Newcastle United began.

Fan call to arms

In an 18-month long stalemate with the Premier League, Staveley grew frustrated in the lack of development in the takeover back in 2020 - “It’s up to the fans now. Because if the fans want this back on then they’re going to have to go to the Premier League and say this isn’t fair.

No letting the support down

Amid the battle for the club, Staveley showed appreciation for the support the group had received from Newcastle fans - “We've had thousands and thousands of letters. We read and we can't respond to all of them, but we are so grateful for the support we've had, and we don't want to let you down.”

A bold comparison

Over a year after the appointment of Eddie Howe, Staveley admitted they made the right decision - “We’d love Eddie Howe to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Sunlit uplands ahead

The co-owner promised a bright future for the club upon the finalisation of the takeover - "We're going to have to build some strong foundations before we go too much further. What I want to do is invest.”

Top of the tree

Staveley also made some bold claims about where the group of owners would like to be in the not-too-distant future - "Newcastle United deserves to be top of the Premier League. We want to get there. It will take time, but we will get there."

In it for the long haul

The now 50-year-old wanted to assure supporters that they weren’t here to make a quick profit, but rather for long-term success - “We are shareholders, and we want to be shareholders for 20 years, all of us.”

Best of the best

Another bold but exciting claim, Staveley made her feelings about the future of the club well known - “We want this club to be the greatest in the world.”

Other options on the table

Newcastle weren’t necessarily the first club Staveley and her husband looked at buying, but they certainly made the best impression - “We looked at a number of big clubs around Europe. And we got the chance to look at Newcastle, while looking at Liverpool. We went there and fell madly in love with the fans, the team and the passion. St James' is a really unique place.”

Going again

Speaking after Carabao Cup defeat, Staveley was full of confidence for the future - "We will win the Carabao Cup, we will win the FA Cup, we will win the Champions League, and we will win the Premier League."

*That* moment

But perhaps the best and most iconic quote from Staveley came immediately after the takeover was announced - “It’s done.”
