10,398 new Covid cases, 17 more deaths

There were 17 more Covid-19 fatalities and 10,398 new cases reported the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.

This compared with the 12 coronavirus-related fatalities and 10,470 new cases reported on Monday morning.

The 17 new fatalities were between the ages of 25 and 99 years.

Bangkok had two coronavirus-related deaths. There were no fatalities in the adjacent provinces.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded five more deaths – two each in Ayutthaya and Sa Kaeo and one in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

The Northeast had four fatalities - in Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South reported four more deaths - in Chumphon, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla.

The North reported two new fatalities - in Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.

There were 10,177 new cases in the general population, 19 among prison inmates and 202 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 10,147 were confirmed at hospitals and 30 via mass testing.

Bangkok again had the most new cases at 1,897, followed by 983 in Samut Prakan, 610 in Chon Buri, 578 in Nonthaburi, 399 in Phuket, 341 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 212 in Chiang Mai, 197 in Pathum Thani, 173 in Khon Kaen and 162 each in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Maha Sarakham.

The 202 imported cases included 88 from Russia, 27 from Kazakhstan, 12 from Ukraine, eight from Germany and six from France.

On Monday 94,243 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 92,784 the previous day), including 527 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 535) and 111 dependent on ventilators (up from 102).

The 24-hour period also saw 8,922 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,517,869 Covid-19 cases, including 294,434 cases this year, with 2,401,306 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,320 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 622 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.82 million in 24 hours to 398.09 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,126 to 5.76 million.

The United States had the most cases at 78.37 million, up 156,487, and the most deaths at 928,879, up 1,269.
