BALTIMORE — One person was killed and 14 injured during a spate of weekend violence that began Friday night in Baltimore, according to police.
Southern District officers who were in the area of the 700 block of S. Charles Street in Baltimore’s Otterbein neighborhood heard gunshots minutes after 3 a.m. Saturday.
Officers were then dispatched to the 800 block of S. Hanover Street, where they found a person who was shot multiple times, police said. The victim was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The violence continued Saturday night when police were called at 7:40 p.m. to the 1500 block of E. Fayette St. in East Baltimore, where a 41-year-old woman had been shot.
Several more shootings were reported early Sunday. A 23-year-old woman was shot in a home in the 2500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue near Mondawmin Mall around 4:03 a.m. The victim was taken to a hospital.
Police responded at about 2:19 a.m. Sunday to the 600 block of South Broadway for a report of a shooting and found two victims. A 34-year-old man had an apparent gunshot wound to the stomach, and a 23-year-old man had an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
At about 1:18 a.m., detectives from the Northwestern District responded to the 3800 block of Clarks Lane for a shooting and found that a suspect and a victim had been involved in a physical altercation. The 37-year-old victim was struck by a projectile and received aid from medics. Police said they arrested a person of interest.
Police also said they are investigating a shooting in the 1600 block of Thames Street. Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds, who was taken to a hospital.
And just several minutes earlier, at around 12:22, police from the Southwestern District responded to a reported shooting in the 1900 block of Grinnalds Avenue, where they were told a victim was taken to a hospital. The victim, a 21-year-old man, had multiple gunshot wounds and was in stable condition, police said.
Earlier Saturday, officers responded to the 700 block of N. Port Street in reference to a ShotSpotter alert.
Just before 2 a.m., police found a 41-year-old man suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers then found a second victim who also had gunshot wounds in the 2400 block of E. Monument Street.
Both victims were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition.
On Friday night, five people were injured in shootings.
Northwest District officers heard gunfire about 10:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Grantley Avenue in the Towanda-Grantley neighborhood, according to police.
Police canvassed the area and found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot graze to his arm, and a 31-year-old man with a gunshot graze on his back.
Investigators determined the shooting happened in the 2800 block of Boarman Avenue.
Before this shooting, police were called at 9:55 p.m. to the 400 block of Curley Street in the Ellwood Park neighborhood where officers found a woman who had been shot in the back. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police later learned of a man who had been shot in the leg and walked into an area hospital seeking treatment.
Just 20 minutes earlier, at 9:35 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of S. Mount Street in the Union Square neighborhood where they found a 32-year-old man who had been shot in both legs. He was taken to an area hospital.
