KOLKATA: One in 28 vehicles plying on the city’s roads is polluting, a first-of-its kind study by the transport department — a “profile-mapping” of 5 lakh vehicles in Kolkata and Howrah in 2019 — has revealed.
While diesel taxis and buses are the major pollutants, even petrol ambulances and other emergency vehicles along with private cars contribute to the city’s air pollution, shows the study, the first analysis of the relationship between polluting vehicles and the vehicle type.
