Federal regulators have recalled about 1.5 million rechargeable hand warmers after the manufacturer received 1,480 reports of the devices overheating, a tally that includes 15 fires, 350 burn injuries and the death of an 83-year-old man in San Diego.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of OCOOPA-branded rechargeable lithium-ion hand warmers, imported by Shenzhen Street Cat Technology Co. and sold as OCOOPA Direct. The death occurred in February 2026. CPSC has not released further details about the circumstances.
