1.5 million people expected to travel through Dublin Airport over Christmas

Around 1.5 million people are expected to travel through Dublin Airport from today until January 4.

This year's Christmas passenger numbers are up 95% on last year and are on par with 2019 figures. Friday December 23 will be the airport's busiest day, with around 98,000 passengers due travel through both terminals.

Dublin Airport issued some advice to help passengers have a smooth trip over the festive period. They warned that snow globes, butter, brandy butter and cranberry sauce are not allowed in hand luggage and reminded passengers not to wrap gifts.

Those travelling should check which Terminal you're departing from and check what time your airline's check-in desk/bag drop opens. The airport also advises passengers to arrive at the airport 2hrs before a short-haul flight, 3hrs before long-haul and allow an additional hour if checking in a bag.

Dublin Airport spokesman Graeme McQueen said: "Dublin Airport will have additional Customer Care staff on duty over the Christmas season to ensure passengers have an efficient and smooth journey through the airport. We would also ask passengers to prepare for security screening by removing their outer jacket, belts, keys, coins and laptops from cases so that security searches are kept to a minimum."

Dublin Airport will close on Christmas Day – the only day on which it closes every year - however a number of staff members will remain on duty that day, including the airport’s emergency fire services.

Flight operations will cease on Christmas Eve after the last flight arrives from Tenerife with Aer Lingus at 23.10 and will resume on St. Stephen’s Day when an Aer Lingus flight from New York’s JFK Airport lands at 04.35.
