1.05 kg drugs seized in Meerut, one held

MEERUT: Police on Monday seized 1.05 kilograms of cannabis along with over Rs 12 lakh cash from a house, and arrested one person from Nai Basti locality under the jurisdiction of Transport Nagar police station in Meerut.

The accused was identified as a 54-year-old woman Saashi, a resident of Transport Nagar. According to circle officer Suchita Singh, the accused was dealing in narcotics for a long period and had been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act twice.

After serving time in prison, the accused resumed smuggling after getting out. Her modus operandi was to buy drugs from a dealer and then sell them in the market on a daily basis. She used to store cash in her house, hence, a large amount of money was recovered, Singh added.

In a similar case, Haji Tasleem, a drug smuggler was caught operating in a nearby region. He had collected valuables worth crores of rupees. At present, he is in prison after a case under the NDPS Act was filed against him.
