Zoe Kravitz has likened directing a movie to raising a child.
The 36-year-old actress made her directorial debut earlier this year with the psychological thriller film 'Blink Twice', and Zoe has now admitted that it was more challenging than she expected.
Zoe - who directed and produced the film from a script written by E.T. Feigenbaum - told Variety: "The story felt all over the place. There was a lack of tension. Because I have so many characters, you don’t know who to be connected to and who you are following.
"I realised the more you try to control a film and make it what you think it was, the worse it will be. It’s like having a child and saying, 'You’re going to be straight, a doctor and live in Connecticut.' You have to allow it to show you what it wants to be. Once I let that go and listened to it, it really fell into place. But you have to let your idea die."
Despite this, Zoe was ultimately pleased with the final result.
She shared: "I actually think it ended up being closer to what I wanted, but I didn’t understand it yet or something.
"I also had this incredible blessing that everyone’s wearing the same thing every day. So I realised this is like documentary footage. I can just rip this apart, and I did."
Channing Tatum, Zoe's ex-partner, was cast in the film, and she thought that the Hollywood star was perfect for the role.
The actress - who is the daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet - said: "I wanted to weaponise his charisma."
