Zoe Ball flooded with well-wishes after being replaced on Radio 2 at last minute

Zoe Ball has been flooded with well-wishes after she was replaced at the last minute on Radio 2. The presenter was due back on her breakfast show on Monday morning (January 30) but listeners were left surprised when they were greeted by a different - yet very familiar - voice.

She soon revealed that she had to miss her early morning slot after a health emergency. Zoe, 52, was suddenly replaced by former Radio 1 host and TV star Vernon Kay, who will sit in her place for the coming days.

After being inundated by messages from concerned fans, Zoe told her followers on Twitter: "So, I've got Covid. But the good news is your man Vernon Kay is looking after y'all." She shared the message alongside a photo of her and Vernon together recently alongside their radio pal Rylan.

Zoe had covered her face with a germ emoji and red stop sign, pointing a large arrow towards her face. She then added: "Back soon." Rylan, 34, was quick to respond as he wrote: "Noooooooooo," while singer Louise Redknapp penned: "Hope you're OK, lovely."

@WendyMcCallumA1 said: "Poor you Zoe. I hope you feel much better very soon." @janestokes13 wrote: "Wishing you all the best Zoe & I hope you’re feeling better very soon." @tigger5 replied: "Zoe, I hope you are feeling better soon, rest up, drink plenty and know we are all wishing you well. Vernon have a great time."

@aglover970 commented: "Get well soon! We will miss you." @Nezeli_Fagundes posted: "Oh, non... Get well soon lovely @ZoeTheBall." @WKD_99 added: "Awww no. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Will miss your cheery happy vibes you give us all."

Bolton-born Vernon, 48, also confirmed he’d be filling in for Zoe on social media and jokingly urged her to get better soon, admitting he’s struggling with the 5am wake ups. "Couple of mornings on @BBCRadio2 coming up!! Get well quickly @ZoeTheBall 5am wake up’s play havoc with the eye bags!! See you tomorrow from 6.30AM," the presenter tweeted.

And fans were happy to hear him back on the radio. @Kazipoo said: "Get better soon @ZoeTheBall but loving that @vernonkay standing in…need your own show on @BBCRadio2 as you are terrific!" @lcg_linda replied: "The lovely @vernonkay - Monday morning just got more appealing. Will listen out for the car parking alarm around 08:27! (hoping you are not too unwell Zoe)."
