Zoe Ball apologises to fans as she reveals why she left part way through Radio 2 show after feeling unwell

Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball has apologised to fans after leaving part way through her breakfast show. The broadcaster sparked concern after her unexpected absence on Monday morning (April 4).

After pulling out of her show she was replaced by travel reporter Richie Anderson who explained that Zoe was unwell. The 51-year-old was running late for her 6.30am start due to having a flat tyre, with Richie covering until she took back the reins at around 6.50am.

But Richie took back over at 7.30am and he explained: "I'm Richie Anderson and I'm in because Zoe's not feeling too well unfortunately. So she's had to go home which means you're stuck with me. We are sending Zo loads of love."

Richie continued to present until 8.30am before Ken Bruce came on air an hour before his scheduled slot. Zoe thanked listeners for their support as she later took to Twitter to explain that the flat tyre incident had more of an effect on her than she had thought.

She wrote: "Apologies for this morning gang, tyre went on the way in to work. I was so keen not miss the show, dashed in and hadn't quite realised the effect it'd had on me."

Zoe, who took over from Chris Evans as breakfast show host in 2019, reassured worried fans that she was okay. And she confirmed that she would be back tomorrow.

"I'm ok. Thanks for the lovely messages," she said.

"Big thanks to Richie and Ken for stepping in. Will be back tomorrow xx"

Messages of support came flooding in and Radio 2's official Twitter replied with a love heart. And fans told Zoe they were relieved to hear she was okay.

@SmithyCross tweeted: "Must have shocked you big time. Poor thing. The boys did well in your absence.

"Just worried for your well-being. Glad you messaged to say you’re ok now."

@MartinCox0155 wrote: "Thank you for updating us. I was seriously worried about you.

"Hope you have time to fully wind down from the earlier stress. Take care."

@karenbo84123119 told her: "Happened to me on my way to work a few months ago. I continued to work but later that day had a melt down.

"It’s really scary isn’t it! Glad you’re ok."

And fans said the unprecedented changes had left them confused.

@dillane_amanda said: "Came out of the gym before work and heard Ken take over. I thought 'how long was I in there?'"

And @kew13 commented: "Haha I got all confused and thought I was late taking the kids to school hahaha. I said 'Ken's on after school drop off' lol x"
