A Zip World worker was flown to hospital on Sunday, November 13 following a "medical emergency". The worker, understood to be an instructor at the company's Bethesda site, is believed to have broken his ankle and was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
Emergency services were called to Penrhyn Quarry. The employee's condition is unknown, the Daily Post reports. It has been reported that the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust was alerted to a medical emergency at Zip World in Bethesda at 1.26pm and that a Wales Air Ambulance helicopter crew was also called.
"One of the instructors was moving one of the quarry karts at the top of the hill, went over on his ankle and broke his ankle. He was moving, he stood up and he misjudged it. He's now been taken to hospital. It wasn't a member of the public. It's just a freak accident," said Sean Taylor of Zip World.
Zip World's Penrhyn Quarry site is home to the world's fastest zip line, allowing visitors to fly 500m above the quarry's lake. Visitors are also able to use three-wheeled quarry karts to descend a three kilometre slate track, which starts from 1,500 ft above sea level.
