A former Disney executive recently shared insights about Zendaya's audition for a major movie series that she didn't land. The ex-VP of Casting and Talent Relations at Disney Channel revealed on a podcast that Zendaya had auditioned multiple times for a role in the Descendants franchise but ultimately did not get it. Descendants is a popular musical fantasy movie series that follows the lives of the children of Disney's iconic heroes and villains.
The filming for Descendants began in 2014, and the first installment premiered in 2015. During this time, Zendaya was busy with her Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover and her Disney Channel Original Movie Zapped. Despite putting in significant effort into her auditions for Descendants, Zendaya did not secure a role in the film.
The former Disney exec mentioned that Zendaya's unsuccessful audition for Descendants may have worked in her favor, as it opened up the opportunity for her to make her feature film debut in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside her boyfriend Tom Holland. Zendaya was cast as Michelle, also known as MJ, in the Spider-Man franchise.
The interview did not disclose the specific role Zendaya auditioned for in Descendants. However, fans can listen to the full podcast episode for more details. Additionally, the latest installment in the Descendants series, titled Descendants: The Rise of Red, is set to premiere on Disney Channel on August 9.
