Zendaya has spoken candidly about her relationship with fellow actor Tom Holland and explained that they have chosen to keep it largely out of the spotlight in a bid to “protect” it.
Holland and Zendaya have kept their romance low-key since they were first linked in 2017 after starring opposite one another in the Spider-Man franchise.
They denied dating rumours for five years, with Holland telling GQ how “frustrating” the speculation was, yet in 2021 they finally went public with their relationship.
Now in a new interview, the triple threat star, 26, admitted that life in the limelight means “parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public”.
However, the Euphoria actor admitted that while she’s working at keeping her romance with the British actor as private as possible, she doesn’t want to “hide” it either.
She told Elle in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike: “I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share.
“It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist.
“You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
Her comments come after Holland shared rare insight into their relationship in June and said he is “lucky” to have Zendaya in his life.
The actor, 27, is notoriously private when it comes to discussing his US superstar other half, let his guard down a bit during an interview on the SmartLess podcast.
Discussing their relationship, he said: “I’m lucky that I have someone like Zendaya in my life. It’s interesting being in a romantic relationship with someone that is in the same boat as you.
“You can share your experiences and all that sort of stuff. And that’s worth its weight in gold.”
Holland has previously told how his secret passion for carpentry impressed the Euphoria actress in the early days of their relationship.
“Carpentry is something I just really enjoy,” he told Unilad ‘s Get A Job! video series.
“I fixed my girlfriend’s door once really early on in our relationship,” he continued.
“I was hanging out at her house and her door was broken. I was like, ‘I’m gonna fix that door for you.’ And now, we’re in love.”
