After a five-year Met Gala hiatus Zendaya, a co-chair of the 2024 Met Gala commanding the carpet like fashion's reigning queen—owning the night in not one, but two looks. She also walked the carpet with fashion's new reigning king, her ridiculously talented stylist Law Roach. Weirdly the Challengers star had an early arrival (usually the heavy-weight A-listers arrive last) and now we know why.
Dress 1: Maison Margiela Couture
Flexing her fashion muscles, her first showstopping moment saw her nail a fantasy take on the floral theme in a John Galliano for Maison Margiela Couture ocean blue one-shoulder gown with dramatic tulle shoulder which was actually a reinterpretation of a Dior spring/summer 1999 design. Like something straight out of a sci-fi novel or One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest the shimmering haute couture dress featured a satin corset bodice with layers of draped tulle and fabric, and flora and fruit embellishments. She finished things off with a dramatic feather headpiece by Stephen Jones for Margiela, dark gothic-inspired makeup, and Bulgari jewelry, a slay.
Dress 2: Zendaya in Vintage Givenchy
The next jaw-dropping moment came at the end of the evening when Zendaya surprised fans by reappearing at the bottom of the steps, this time in a jaw-dropping black Victorian gown from John Galliano's Givenchy era. The 1996 piece featured a corseted lace-up bodice with long, puffy off-the-shoulder sleeves, a structured peplum hemline, and a ginormous skirt that consumed the iconic Met steps. As if a second appearance didn't already have us stunned, Zendaya accessorized with a bouquet-themed headpiece wrapped up in black tulle, designed by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen back in 2006.
There is no stopping fashion's new high priestess.
