Zendaya has apologised for missing Tuesday night’s Golden Globes after she won an award for her turn in Euphoria.

During the star-studded event, the 26-year-old actor picked up the Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Television Series honour for her performance as Rue in the teen drama. It was her first Golden Globe nomination and win.

Although she wasn’t at the ceremony in person, the Dune star took to Instagram after picking up the award and shared her gratitude to everyone who has let her Euphoria character “into their heart”.

Posting a black-and-white photo of herself as Rue, she wrote: “I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to be there tonight, but I just wanted to say thank you to @goldenglobes for this incredible honor.

“To my fellow nominees, it is a privilege to be named beside you, I admire you all deeply. Thank you to my Euphoria family, without you, none of this is possible.”

The Greatest Showman actress then paid tribute to those who have been moved by Rue’s harrowing battle with drug addiction throughout the series.

“Lastly, thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has allowed Rue into theirs,” she continued.

“I think everyone knows how much she means to me, but the fact that she can mean something to someone else is a gift.

“I’m honestly at a loss for words as I type this, all I can say is thank you thank you thank you. Goodnight.”

After sharing her post, the Hollywood star was inundated with messages of congratulations from friends and her Euphoria castmates.

Storm Reid, who plays her on-screen sister Gia in the HBO drama, penned: “So proud of u.”

While co-star Maude Apatow, who portrays her friend Lexi in the series, commented: “CONGRATULATIONS.”
