Zara McDermott terrified and frantic after beloved cats go missing

Zara McDermott revealed she almost had a 'mental breakdown' when she couldn't find her beloved pet cats.

The Love Island star, 26, and her boyfriend Sam Thompson, 30, own two ragdoll cats -Albus and Cedric, named after his favourite Harry Potter characters.

However, the adorable cats were nowhere to be found when Zara returned home yesterday.

She took to her Instagram Stories to explain the terrifying moment she realised they were missing.

Writing to her 1.7 million followers, she said: "I just had a near mental breakdown because I home and I couldn't find the cats anywhere, I spent 20 mins searching every room and cupboard for them and I couldn't see them.

"Anyway long story short my brother calmed me down on the phone and I started searching every part of the house top to bottom, I found them inside an electrical cupboard in the basement... I couldn't hear their cries. I've never felt relief like it."

She went on to joke: "The biggest question is which poltergeist put them in there???? How on earth did they end up deep in a random cupboard?!

"It was slo jammed shut with a ladder. SO STRANGE."

Along with the explanation, she shared a picture of the adorable cats.

It's not the first time her cats went missing as Albus and Cedric escaped the house when Sam accidentally left the door to the house open.

While filming miles away from home last year, she received a message from her cleaner.

Zara said: "So I am in the south west coast of England. I'm filming a new project and I pull up to my hotel, go to get out of the car and I get a message from my cleaner saying 'why did you leave the door open? Your cat's escaped'.

"Albus has escaped into [Sam's sister] Louise and Ryan's garden. I called every single person within the vicinity of the area to come and help because my cleaner couldn't climb the fence to get him back.

"Nobody answered me. And I was just screaming, crying... scared I was never going to see him again. And Sam didn't answer the phone and Sam was the one who left the door open.

"I've never been so angry at him in my whole life."

She added: "What I'm taking away from this is the love I have for my cats... I'm even welling up at the thought of Albus going missing and me never seeing him again."
