Zara makes a big change in its stores affecting all customers

Zara has made a big change in its stores that will affect all customers.

The high street favourite has a branch in Liverpool ONE and is adored by shoppers for its clothing, footwear, accessories and more. However, people visiting Zara stores will now notice a big change.

The fashion giant is now charging customers 10p for every carrier bag, so if you’re planning a Zara haul and haven’t brought your own bags, prepare to be charged. The company first introduced the change at its Spanish stores back in October 2021 and now UK customers face the same carrier bag charge.

A spokesperson for Inditex which owns Zara told Reuters last year that the 10p carrier bag price was part of a “push for sustainability and packaging reuse”. They added that Zara planned on investing all of the proceeds from the paper bags in environmental projects run by local non-profits in Spain.

It was also reported in 2021 that Zara customers in Germany could now make a voluntary payment for carrier bags. In 2020, the brand replaced all plastic bags in its shops and online orders with recycled and recyclable paper bags.
