Zara introduces new change that affects everyone who shops online

High-street chain Zara has made a major change to their online returns policy which will see shoppers paying nearly an extra £2.

Since May 3, the fashion retailer has been charging shoppers a fee for the return of any online bought goods to third party drop off points.

Wales Online reports that shoppers will now be charged a £1.95 fee for the return of any online bought goods, with the amount being deducted from the refunded amount.

However, shoppers choosing to return items they bought from their website to store, can still do so for free.

The decision comes after high-street retailers Uniqlo and Next implemented the same policy for the return of any online bought goods.

The BBC reported that, while online shopping boomed during the pandemic, there was also a growing trend in customers returning items they bought online, leading to higher costs for retailers.

A Zara spokesperson told the BBC : "Customers can return online purchases at any Zara store in the UK free of charge, which is what most customers do. The £1.95 fee only applies to the return of products at third party drop off points."

The retailer's decision to cancel free postal returns has been met with criticism from some shoppers who took to social media to vent their frustrations.

@KatieHerbert1 said on Twitter: "Having to pay for zara returns has got to be the worst thing to hit the cost of living crisis to date", while @sophie_ann1 posted: "Making changes to your free returns which now cost your customers and making no announcement about it? Not cool." @BecJennings4 called it "really disappointing".
