While many of the royal residences are widely known by the public, Gatcombe Park which stands right at the heart of the Cotswold countryside is probably lesser-known. Zara and Mike Tindall have lived in the stunning home since 2013 and have carried out extensive renovations.
Zara, who is the daughter of Princess Anne, married the former England rugby union player in 2011. The couple have gone on to have three children - Mia, Lena and Lucas. The family of five now live at Gatscombe Park, which is located between the villages of Minchinhampton and Avening in Gloucestershire.
The private country location covers a vast 700-acre estate, Gloucestershire Live reports, and is one of numerous royal homes dotted around the site. They are joined by Princess Anne, who lives at the site’s Grade-II listed main building home with her husband, Timothy Laurence.
The Tindall’s home has its own private gym, as revealed when Mike participated in the 2.6 Challenge last year. A Union Jack is also on display amid its exposed brick walls.
According to Hello!, in 2018 the couple submitted plans to add a conservatory to their home as part of a two-storey extension. The planning was approved shortly after the birth of daughter Lena in June of that year.
The extension meant that their floor space increased from 115.5m sq to 135.5m sq, with a "greater area of work surface" in their new open-plan kitchen and dining room, and a new ground floor toilet and utility area.
The open space is extensive as well, which Princes Anne uses to hold annual equestrian events on the estate’s land. It is said that Zara, who is a former Olympian equestrian, has many of her horses stabled on the estate. The Princess’ son, Peter Phillips, also lives within the estate, alongside his daughters, Isla and Savannah.
The home was privately bought by the Queen over five decades ago, before it was refurbished and renovated ahead of the family moving back in during the late ‘70s. Princess Anne has lived there since 1976, before Mike and Zara joined them in 2013 after they sold their Cheltenham home. Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, also lives within the huge estate alongside his daughters, Isla and Savannah.
When speaking to Countryfile, Princess Anne spoke of her love for Gatcombe, saying: “It's really nice to come back and just be yourself in an area like this. Being able to take on a place like this – for me, I’ve got to make it work.”
