Rising Rangers star Zak Lovelace admits it would be a dream to star in their first team as Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces a potential frontline headache. The 16-year-old joined the Ibrox outfit in the summer after making the breakthrough at Millwall.
Lovelace became the Lions second youngest player to represent their first team when he starred in their Championship win over Coventry City in December, at just 15-years-old.
Lovelace, who scored in Rangers B’s 7-0 win over Dumbarton in the SPFL Trust Trophy, revealed he jumped at the chance to move to Rangers and is giving his all to make the step up to their first team.
Van Bronckhorst is set to be without Alfredo Morelos for two games - this weekend's visit of Ross County in the Scottish Premiership and Queen of the South in the Premier Sports Cup - due to suspension and might want to ease the burden on Antonio Colak with Fashion Sakala also an option.
But he could turn to Lovelace amid a fans clamour and the youngster said: “Every player dreams of playing in the first team. That’s what I am trying to do, to get to the first team level. Rangers always appealed to me, the football they play, the levels that they play at, European football. I just play football and come into training every day and do what I have to do.”
Lovelace reckons starring for Rangers B team is enhancing his football development. He said: “It’s benefitting me in many ways playing in the B team, my technical ability and the physical opposition that we play against. It’s benefitting me as a player to get up to levels that I haven’t even reached yet.”
