Hollywood actor Zachary Levi, best known for playing Shazam in the superhero film Shazam!, revealed he was Welsh while appearing on The One Show. Zachary appeared on the green sofas alongside his Shazam! co-star Dame Helen Mirren and chatted to hosts Alex Jones, who hails from Ammanford, and Roman Kemp.
After talking about the new Shazam! film, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The One Show aired a section about the creation of the Welsh language TV channel S4C. Presented by BBC Radio Two star Owain Wyn Evans, the film told the story of Gwynfor Evan's threat to go on hunger strike when Margret Thatcher's Conservative Party withdrew their promise of creating the Welsh channel.
After the film aired, Zachary revealed he was Welsh. He said: "The lion's share of my DNA is Welsh. A lot of Welsh, some English, some Irish...I claim my Welsh ancestry! I love it, I'm a big fan of the people and the music that we create." Alex Jones told him: "Zachary, you have got the best DNA".

Recently Alex Jones, who has always proudly shown and spoken about her Welsh heritage, has said her colleagues on The One Show 'think it's funny' she speaks Welsh but it helped her to get the job. Alex appeared on the S4C show Stori'r Iaith and said: "It’s really odd because some people don’t understand anything about the Welsh language. Some people at work think it's funny that I speak this completely different language. At the start, people would look at me as if I had two heads whenever I’d be talking Welsh over the phone and stuff."
She added: "I remember my first time on the programme as if it was yesterday. I’ll be honest, there was not much time to think about anything - there was so much pressure. And no one could believe that someone with such a strong accent would be sitting on that sofa. By now, people from across Britain will tell me how much they love the accent they hear nearly every night at 7pm."
