Zach Wilson puts blame on himself for Jets’ loss to Chiefs

Zach Wilson had arguably the best performance of his career on Sunday night despite the New York Jets losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, completing a career-best 28 of his 39 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Even after the positive outing, Wilson put the blame on himself for the Jets’ loss following a fumbled snap in the fourth quarter.

“To be driving right there and to drop a snap — I cannot do that,” Wilson told reporters, via ESPN. “I lost us that game, and I can’t do that.”

With under 11 minutes remaining in the game, the Chiefs kicked a field goal to secure a 23-20 lead in the fourth quarter. The Jets got the ball back with plenty of time to either tie the game or jump in front of the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Wilson would convert a third-and-six on an eight-yard pass to Garrett Wilson, and then complete a 13-yard pass to Tyler Conklin to advance the Jets to midfield. After a one-yard run by Dalvin Cook, Wilson would then bobble a snap out of shotgun, and it would be recovered by the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs would then run out the final seven minutes and 24 seconds in the game, leaving a bitter ending on what was a potential breakthrough game for Wilson. While his teammates consoled him after the game, Wilson took responsibility for his costly mistake against the Chiefs.
