Zach Wilson Emphatically Denies Reports He Didn’t Want To Play

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was re-named the team’s starter on Wednesday, two weeks after he was benched in favor of Tim Boyle, who was waived on Tuesday.

Earlier in the week, reports emerged suggesting Wilson was reluctant to return to the starting role.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Wilson emphatically denied those reports, saying that they were frustrating to hear.

“Absolutely not,” said Wilson when asked if the reports had any truth to them, via SNY. “I love the guys in this locker room and I would do anything. I think any time you have an opportunity to step on this field, you need to take advantage of it.”

“I’ve had backing since day one and that’s why I love this team so much. They understand the struggles we’ve been going through, and I think there’s going to be a lot of respect shown to just keep fighting from everybody, and we’re all going through the same thing.”

The 24-year-old told reporters he intends to have more fun when he gets back out onto the field in Week 14, when the Jets take on the Texans. Coach Robert Saleh said earlier on Wednesday that Wilson was “fired up” about being back.

In 10 games this season, Wilson threw six touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
