Yvonne Ford rabies inquest delayed as witness stranded amid Iran conflict

  • An inquest into the death of Yvonne Ford, a grandmother who contracted rabies overseas, has been unexpectedly adjourned.
  • Ms Ford, 59, from Barnsley, died in the UK four months after being scratched by a puppy during a visit to Morocco in February 2025.
  • The inquest was delayed because a crucial witness, a hospital consultant, is stranded in Bali due to travel disruptions caused by turmoil in the Middle East.
  • Assistant coroner Marilyn Whittle hopes the witness will be able to give evidence by Wednesday, with a decision on the inquest's continuation expected on Tuesday.
  • Ms Ford's family has appealed to holidaymakers to take animal bites seriously and vaccinate pets, describing her as the “heart of our family”.
